My Fine Art Journey
My fine art journey starts young - in elementary school with Kodak disposable cameras for summer camp, and eventually a purple plastic translucent camera, a product of the early 2000's - yes, I am dating myself. Over time, I got a small digital handheld camera, a Nikon film camera, and finally my first big SLR camera in college. Many images you see in my fine art galleries are taken with those earlier cameras - some of my best work was when I was younger and I was brand new to the world of photography.
Over time, I played around, producing many not great photos, instead, focusing on who I am as an artist, as a person, and getting to know my media - the camera. In order to succeed, one must also fail. These were not true failures, but rather just learn opportunities. Each attempt at something new will never be perfect the first time, but needs to be done over and over and over until the skill is honed and one becomes more comfortable with something new. My journey continues from undergraduate work (one class short of a photography minor) up to San Francisco to get my MFA in Photography. While that journey was VERY short lived (one semester up in SF), the amount of learning that happened still amazes me. Four months in San Francisco has carried over into the past 13 years and I am still using things I learned to this day.
I took a long break to have a family, raise my kids, pursue other dreams...but...I AM BACK!!!
My New Work!
You are the first to see my new work! It is technically older, but I have never really presented this online before. This is a series, meant to be together, in the order presented (on a phone, it will show up top to bottom - on a desktop, it is left to right.)
This series encompasses my love of macro photography, my enjoyment with color adjustment and processing, and the exploration of the flowers around me. I am most comfortable with blues and purples, but I tend to shy away from yellows and pinks, as they are not my favorite colors at all. This series, like others, is meant to help me move through aspects of photography and editing that make me feel less comfortable. As I work through these uncomfortable moments, I strive to become at peace with it. The goal is never to learn to like it or love, but just not dislike it. Each series that explores unfamiliar aspects produces a new path for my future art - I find my art photography keeps moving in different directions and I honestly find it so fun and refreshing. I am excited to continue sharing my new with you - I have more in the works!!!
