SCIBSW: We Be Book'n
I am sure I am not the only one who avoids stores because I always have my kids with me and many stores just simply aren’t made for kids.
Well…enter We Be Book’n - a store I recently found this year. This place is seriously a God send for our community - a place for people to cruise books, cruise local art, get some coffee, all while kids are staying out of trouble in their special kids play area. How amazing is that?!?
Branding Color Palette
I am so excited that We Be Book’n has such a nailed down color palette, AND they are using it cohesively!!! There are two main colors I am seeing them use, a dark blue and rusty orange, with a dusty purple being used as an accent (so perfect!) I threw the bright green into my graphic for fun - it creates a fun, bright accent color to what they already have while still matching their branding images.
Branding typography
Three serif fonts in total - one on logo, one on the book dragon graphic, one on their website. Website also has a sans serif font. They also have a cool calendar with events happening that month, but it was also in a different font, which surprised me!
Cohesive branding
This store makes me so happy! Their logo is simultaneously detailed and crisp and clean. It’s mostly black and white, but has some accent orange and brown thrown in there. I love that instead of the main colors coming from the logo itself, they come from a wonderful graphic that encompases their vibe - “In a world full of bookworms, be a book dragon.” I couldn’t think of a better graphic to fit this store - I am not sitting here wondering if this was just something they found online, or if it was created by them or for them. Throughout their Facebook, Instagram, and their website, I did notice wonderfully cohesive branding.
I noticed their Facebook is the most active, with a number of additional posts from their Instagram. I would love to see a more active Instagram, attracting some of the younger folks who are not on Facebook. I was very happy to see lots of photos from their in store events and new spring drink line up. Keep it up!
Personal Branding
Like so many small businesses, I found a lack of personal branding. I have seen several posts with the owner and her sister in them, but I only know that because I have come into the store before and had some conversations with them. As an outsider, never having gone in before, I would have no idea WHO the owner was or anything about them. There isn’t an About Us/About Me section on their website, only a small little blurb about them being a family friendly bookstore that is family owned.
I would love to see more about WHO they are, WHAT they like, and a bit more about WHY the store was started. What’s their mission? What is their passion behind this place? Tell us more!!
I would love to see photos on their website and social media about who each person is, a little bit about them, their favorite book, things like that. I would love to be able to connect with them through photographs and imagery, not just an off chance conversation while I am there in the store - those conversations are never guaranteed.
I noticed when cruising their website that they offer event space rental - something I didn’t know before. How cool would it be to have some posts every few weeks about this service they offer and to see photographs of their space?!
I look forward to seeing how We Be Book’n grows and evolves as such a new business in our community. Thank you for being awesome!
Final Thoughts
Out of all the 7 stores in the indie bookstore line up, this was the only one I had been inside of before the tour started. I will continue to come back as they have a FANTASTIC walled in play space for my kids and the ambiance is so bright and welcoming. While We Be Book’n doesn’t have a huge used books section and most of their books are new, there are so many things I absolutely love about this place. We will for sure be back!
